After getting my grumpy post out of my system yesterday, I needed to turn my day around! Mission: successful.
We started the day with blueberry mixed grain pancakes (using the same pancake recipe as I used here but subbing in tons of frozen blueberries for the strawberries and chocolate), ran some errands, and then I declared that I wanted to take a two hour walk. Dan was skeptical of this at first, but once we got going he was glad! The weather is still unseasonably nice–it was 50˚ and sunny. I wore a thin long sleeved shirt and a scarf and I was warm! What is going on?
We completed seven wonderful miles, starting out on Huguenot Street and then picking up the rail trail until it was time to turn around. It was such a nice walk:
Towards the end of the walk, these little buddies found us:
They lived on a farm on the rail trail and were waiting for us after we turned around to head back home. They were hilarious–they kept following us at a distance. I was kind of worried that they would follow us too far and get onto the main road, but eventually they found something more interesting to sniff and forgot about us.
When we got home, we had lunch and then Dan took a nap while I read the current issue of Self magazine. When he woke up, we started to prepare for our New Year’s Eve celebration. We had plans with some friends, but I cancelled earlier this week because I knew I wasn’t going to be in a very celebratory mood, and staying home was really what I needed this year.
Instead of dinner, we decided to make snacks:
Crackers, horseradish cheese, turkey pepperoni, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, dip, and bacon wrapped dates. Yum! Plus we picked up some drinks:
I had a couple of glasses of this Riesling (it was good but very sweet) and Dan picked up some Czech beer that was okay but not amazing. It was very smooth but a bit bland.
We also continued our new obsession of watching horrible movies. Friday night we watched The Haunted Casino and last night we watched 2012: Ice Age. Oh. My. God. We were laughing hysterically through both of them.
It was a wonderfully uneventful New Year’s Eve! I hope you all had a good one too!
